SHADOWLAKE POND PROJECT

February 12th, 2012

As you may know, the city of Charlotte is planning to upgrade the pond to improve the water quality and prevent significant flooding. A meeting was held in November by the city representatives to go over the plans. The SNA (Shadowlake Neighborhood Association) is being asked for easements to do the upgrade. While the upgrade will effect lake front residents primarily, you as a resident also have a say in these matters. We will be addressing the easement approval at the SNA meeting on March 6th, 2012 at the regular meeting st the Earthfare at 7 pm. It is hoped that the city will have representatives to answer your questions. It is very important to participate in this meeting and vote (must have paid your dues either last year or this year). These plans will greatly effect the property values in the neighborhood.

I am very much in favor of the improvements, as I take a long view planning to stay in the neighborhood for retirement. I expect to be here for a long time. My views are shaped by that, and not by short term issues. Please consider joining in voting for allowing the city easements that are necessary for the changes.

Please give me your feedback in the form of any questions you may have for me or the city. They will be addressed at the March meeting.

Election of Officers

September 29th, 2011

In the Nov 21st meeting, we will be electing new officers.  Over the years we have depended on a small group of devoted volunteers.  We need fresh faces and new input and ideas to continue to grow the Shadowlake Neighborhood Association.  Over the year I have been impressed with the number of people who help peripherally when an issue strikes them as important.  People have come forward with suggestions that have been great.  We need more of this to make our neighborhood more vibrant.

Please consider running for office and helping make your community better.  You can make a big difference.  Please come to the meeting with nominations.  You may volunteer yourself.  Chances are one-hundred percent that you will be needed and find a useful avenue to contribute to the neighborhood.

We hope to see you at Earthfare on Nov. 21st at 7:30 pm.  Bring a friend and fellow volunteer/voter.  Your participation is immensely appreciated.

Springtime!

April 24th, 2011

It is great to see all the improvements going on in the neighborhood. New driveways, newly sodded front yards, new roofs popping up like flowers, cleaned up yards, newly edged yards, and so many other improvements are sprouting up. What a great time of the year.

The April meeting had another good showing of new and old faces. There were many issues discussed and new ideas shared. The minutes will soon be published and put in the neighborhood protected pages of this website. The next neighborhood function will be the Fishing Tournament. The details will be in the next newsletter.

In the meantime, can’t wait to see the looks of the neighborhood continue to improve. Thanks for all your efforts!

Meeting update

February 14th, 2011

Thanks so much for attending the bimonthly meeting.  We had twenty to twenty-five home owners attend.  The meeting covered many topics that were important to the neighborhood (see the minutes on the website).  We had people sign up for committees and volunteer to help, and we have leaders for many of them.  We still need more help on each committee.  There are many opportunities for you to step outside of the normal box and give some time to help improve the neighborhood.  We look forward to working with you.  If you would like to contribute you can call me directly at 704-609-5950 or on my email at dankellymd@gmail.com.  You could also speak with any of our officers to become involved.

Welcome to the President’s Corner

January 26th, 2011

My name is Dan Kelly.  Thanks for allowing me to serve as your Shadowlake Homeowners Association President.  I am excited to serve you.  My wife Shelley McElhanon and I have lived in the Charlotte area since 1990.  We have and do work in the health care industry.  Five years ago we moved into the community and have enjoyed the neighborhood.  Over the five years here, we really have seen many improvements.  The HOA in the last few years has accomplished much.  The common area improvements have been truly remarkable.  What was a patch of weeds and thorns now is a great place to enjoy the lake and have a picnic. The new addition of two swans have truly transformed it into a special place.  I have noticed that houses are being fixed up more frequently, new paint, new roofs, and new buildings/garages grace the surroundings.  New people are moving in and improving their new purchases.  The feel of the neighborhood is changing.  Shelley and I plan to be at Shadowlake for the next fifteen to twenty  years and want to see it prosper.  Our vision for the community is one of continued renewal.  We hope to see young families move into starter homes and repair and upgrade their investment.  We hope that the present homes will be maintained with pride as ours will.  Please take some time to visit this website, get involved in your neighborhood, and make this a great place to live.
